Overview
The Met24 project represented a sophisticated intersection of historical couture and modern technology. We were honored to welcome the creative team to our studio to execute a complex digital fashion workflow, focusing on the preservation of garment integrity through high-resolution 3D Scanning and advanced Motion Capture techniques.
Working alongside the visionary team at A New Plane LTD, our goal was to ensure that every fold of the historical attire moved with authentic grace. Supporting the Artist and Performer’s movement through precise Animation Cleanup and technical rig correctives allowed the digital doubles to maintain the weight and prestige required for such a high-profile campaign.
Project Experience
To capture the technical essence of the Met24 campaign, we utilized a rigorous 3D Scanning and Cloth Simulation workflow, iteratively refining complex garment physics - such as the train of the 1887 Ball Gown - to ensure stable and seamless motion loops.
The collaboration was centered on capturing the Artist and Performer’s unique physical expression, where we utilized Motion Capture to translate their nuanced performance into the digital realm while maintaining the structural elegance of the period-accurate assets.
The final impact of Tom Wandrag | Met24 was realized through meticulous Animation Cleanup and rig deformation correctives, resulting in a visually stunning digital fashion presentation that flawlessly blended historical aesthetics with cutting-edge digital artistry.
Mimic’s Contribution
Digital Fashion & Cloth Simulation:
We focused on achieving lifelike movement for complex historical silhouettes, including the HoW Ball Gown and the JHalle "Hobble Dress," through iterative simulation passes to ensure the fabric interacted naturally with the Artist and Performer’s movement.
Motion Capture & Animation Cleanup:
Our team provided detailed body and facial Motion Capture refinements, addressing technical elements like floor contact and loop blending to provide a polished, high-fidelity performance for the Met24 campaign.
Rigging & Correctives:
To support the anatomical realism of the digital double, we implemented specialized rig correctives for the elbows and biceps, ensuring volume preservation and smooth transitions during the most demanding performance sequences.
