Burberry - Digital Double and Character Creation

Mimic Productions collaborated with artist Frederik Heyman and Burberry on the Monogram 2021 campaign, providing essential character creation services. Our team delivered a photorealistic digital double of model Naomi Campbell, focusing on technical accuracy in modeling, texturing, rigging, shading, and advanced cloth simulation. This project utilized specialized digital human technology for a high-fashion, cinematic outcome.

Overview

The Burberry Monogram 2021 campaign required precise 3D asset execution to support Frederik Heyman's artistic vision. Mimic Productions was tasked with creating a production-ready digital double of artist/performer Naomi Campbell. Our role centered on core character creation and digital human technology services, including detailed modeling, texturing, robust rigging, cinematic shading, and realistic cloth simulation. This work ensured the digital asset met all technical standards for seamless integration into the final cinematic production.

The creation of a precise digital double of Naomi Campbell was a core requirement for the Burberry Monogram 2021 campaign, leveraging Mimic Productions' specific expertise in character creation. Our technical focus on accurate modeling and precise texturing captured the artist/performer's likeness, creating a high-quality digital human asset for the commercial.

Mimic Productions ensured the digital double asset was technically ready for production through clean rigging, advanced rendering techniques, and specialized cloth simulation. This technical framework confirmed the digital asset was prepared to accept external animation data, enabling the required expressive performance within Frederik Heyman’s cinematic structure.

By delivering focused digital double services—specifically modeling, texturing, rigging, shading, and the development of realistic clothing—Mimic Productions provided the key digital foundation for the campaign. This project demonstrates our capability in producing technically perfect digital human technology assets for demanding and visually innovative global brands.

Mimic’s Contribution

Digital Double

We executed the end-to-end process of developing a photorealistic digital avatar, starting with high-resolution polygonal modeling and detailed texturing. Using source 3D scanning data, we accurately captured the likeness, delivering a foundational, technically sound digital double asset ready for downstream production workflows.

Rigging and Shading

Our team implemented the production-standard rigging and advanced shading network for the digital avatar. This technical preparation ensured the digital double was ready for complex animation workflows by partner studios, maintaining realistic deformation and accurate material response.

Cloth Simulation

We engineered a realistic cloth simulation for the virtual garments applied to the digital double. This process involved setting up accurate physical parameters to ensure the clothing behaved naturally, enhancing the realism of the overall digital human asset.
